The rise of the industrial oxygen industry in Sihor is intimately tied to the establishment of the Alang-Sosiya Ship Recycling Yard in the 1980s. Dismantling decommissioned ocean tankers, container ships and naval vessels requires round-the-clock heavy gas-cutting torches burning high-purity oxygen mixed with fuel gases to slice through armor-grade steel plates measuring up to 100mm in thickness.
સિહોરમાં ઔદ્યોગિક ઓક્સિજન ઉત્પાદનનો વિકાસ ૧૯૮૦ના દાયકામાં અલંગ શિપ રિસાયક્લિંગ યાર્ડની સ્થાપના સાથે સીધો જોડાયેલો છે. અલંગમાં વિશાળ ઓઇલ ટેન્કર્સ, માલવાહક જહાજો અને યુદ્ધજહાજોને તોડવા માટે ૧૦૦ મિલીમીટર સુધીના જાડા સ્ટીલ પતરાં કાપવા પડે છે, જેના માટે ચોવીસે કલાક હાઇ-પ્રેશર ગેસ-કટિંગ ટોર્ચની જરૂર પડે છે.
Given Sihor's prime strategic position — only 50 km inland from Alang, boasting a robust GIDC industrial estate, high-tension electrical power substations, and rail/road links — multiple air separation units (ASUs) and cylinder-filling manifolds were erected here. Over the decades, Sihor grew into the primary gas-filling capital of Saurashtra, sustaining both the ship-breaking yards and more than 90 local steel re-rolling mills.

Alang Ship Breaking Yard processes hundreds of thousands of light displacement tons (LDT) of ships each month. The cutting operation depends almost entirely on continuous delivery of industrial oxygen cylinders and liquid oxygen road-tankers dispatched from Sihor. Cylinders are transported daily down the Bhavnagar-Alang highway, creating a symbiotic supply line where Sihor's oxygen dismantles the hulls, and the dismantled steel returns to Sihor's furnaces. અલંગ શિપ બ્રેકિંગ યાર્ડમાં દર મહિને લાખો ટન સ્ટીલ જહાજોમાંથી છૂટું પાડવામાં આવે છે. આ તમામ કટિંગ કામગીરીનો મુખ્ય આધાર સિહોરથી દરરોજ ટ્રકો અને ક્રાયોજેનિક ટેન્કરો દ્વારા સપ્લાય થતા ઓક્સિજન પર છે. સિહોરના ઓક્સિજનથી અલંગના જહાજો કપાય છે અને એ જ સ્ટીલ સ્ક્રેપ સિહોરની રોલિંગ મિલોમાં પીગળીને નવા સ્ટીલ સળિયા બને છે — જે બંને શહેરો વચ્ચે એક અનોખી ઔદ્યોગિક ભાગીદારી દર્શાવે છે.
